Dashboard Enhancement

UI Case Study

Bharat Matrimony’s dashboard redesign was aimed at creating a more intuitive and engaging home screen for users. The dashboard is the first touchpoint in the user journey after login, so its purpose is to quickly surface relevant matches, recommendations, and trust-building content. The previous interface was functional but minimal; the redesign introduced richer content sections (e.g. new matches, nearby matches, success stories) to personalize the experience and guide users effectively

Problem Statement

The existing dashboard lacked visual appeal and did not meet evolving user expectations

Users found it challenging to navigate and deeply engage with the platform because the design was too sparse and text-heavy. Important features were not prominent, and there was little personalization or guidance, leading to lower user satisfaction. In short, the dashboard wasn’t leveraging visual storytelling or personalization to enhance the matchmaking experience. Bharat Matrimony recognized these pain points and set out to revamp the dashboard with a more modern, user-centric design

The goal was to simplify the matchmaking journey and boost overall engagement by addressing these shortcomings.

Competitor Benchmarking

To inform the redesign, we analyzed competitor and industry-standard solutions in the matchmaking space. Popular dating apps and matrimonial sites (like Tinder and Shaadi.com) present users with rich visuals and personalized suggestions as soon as they log in. For example, dating apps prioritize showing profile cards or match suggestions with photos, which is engaging. In comparison, Bharat Matrimony’s old dashboard was sparse. By benchmarking against these platforms, we identified the need for more imagery, immediate recommendations, and interactive elements. We also noted how social media feeds and e-commerce homepages use personalized sections (“Recommended for you”, etc.) to drive engagement. These findings pushed us to incorporate dynamic content (like daily match recommendations and success stories) and a visually driven layout, ensuring the new dashboard met or exceeded industry standards in engagement and usability.

UI Design Process

Understanding Requirements:

We began by gathering requirements from stakeholders and user feedback. The team pinpointed that users wanted easier access to new match suggestions, updates on their activity, and assurance of the platform’s credibility (through success stories or trust badges). We mapped out the user flow on the dashboard to decide which information should be highlighted for an optimal matchmaking journey.

  • Wireframing & Prototyping: Low-fidelity wireframes were sketched to restructure the dashboard. We experimented with sections for “New Matches”, “Nearby Matches”, “Your Journey So Far” (showing profile stats), and space for promotional or trust content. Through iterative prototyping, we adjusted the hierarchy – ensuring the most actionable items (like viewing new matches) were near the top. Interactive prototypes were created in Figma, allowing the team to simulate the new dashboard experience and gather early feedback.

  • Visual Design Improvements: We adopted a monotone color scheme with a primary brand color accent to create a clean yet engaging look. This meant using shades of the brand’s primary color for consistency and emphasis, which added visual interest without clutter. We chose a friendly, legible font (Lato) for text, improving readability across the dashboard. Key call-to-action (CTA) buttons (e.g. “View All” in match sections) were styled boldly to draw attention. We also incorporated profile photos and icons generously – for instance, showing member profile thumbnails under “New Matches” – to leverage visuals over text. Together, these changes made the interface more inviting and easier to scan.

  • Mobile Responsiveness & Performance: The dashboard was designed with a mobile-first mindset, as a large portion of users access the service via smartphones. We ensured that the new card-based layout would stack neatly on smaller screens and that tap targets (like CTA buttons or profile cards) were appropriately sized for touch. On desktop, the layout uses space effectively with a multi-column design, while on mobile it simplifies to a single column for clarity

  • We also optimized images and assets to avoid slowing down load times, knowing that performance is key to keeping users engaged. The result was a responsive dashboard that delivers a smooth experience on both web and mobile, without compromising on content.

Collaboration & Validation

The redesign process was collaborative and iterative. We worked closely with the product manager and customer support team to ensure the new dashboard addressed real user complaints (such as “I can’t find new matches easily”). Design critiques were held frequently, where stakeholders reviewed the wireframes and prototypes, giving feedback that we incorporated in subsequent iterations. Once a high-fidelity prototype was ready, we conducted quick usability tests with a few existing users, asking them to perform tasks (like “find your new matches” or “access success stories”). Their feedback confirmed that the new layout was more intuitive than the old one. We also ran an A/B test by releasing the new dashboard to a small percentage of users while others saw the old dashboard. This validation phase was crucial – it showed higher engagement on the new design. Based on these findings, we fine-tuned details (for example, adjusting the labeling on stats and tweaking colors for better contrast) before full rollout.

Design Solutions & Features

Personalized Match Highlights:

The revamped dashboard prominently features sections like New Matches and Nearby Matches, each with profile photo cards. This immediate presentation of potential matches (with photos, names, and key details) encourages users to start browsing profiles right away

A “View All” CTA new CTA was under each section lets users dive deeper into that category, addressing the earlier navigation challenge.

  • User Journey Stats: We added a panel summarizing Your Journey So Far – for example, how many profiles the user viewed, likes sent, responses received, etc. These at-a-glance stats give users a sense of progress and nudge them towards the next step (e.g., if they have pending responses). This feature adds a layer of personalization and progress tracking that was missing before.

  • Trust & Engagement Content: Recognizing the importance of trust in matrimonial services, the dashboard now includes a “Success Stories of the Day” section and highlights like “Millions of happy marriages” with a world record mention (as seen in the new design) to boost credibility. It also offers helpful content like links to safety tips or offline services. By weaving in these storytelling elements, the dashboard not only focuses on matches but also reassures users about the platform’s success and safety.

  • Consistent Visual Theme: The use of a monotone color scheme tied to Bharat Matrimony’s branding provides visual coherence For example, all icons and illustrations use the same palette, and important elements (like the Prime membership badge or CTAs) use the primary accent color. Typography is uniform and accessible, using Lato for a friendly yet professional look. This consistency makes the interface feel polished and reduces cognitive load, since users see a unified design language throughout.

  • Improved Navigation: Key navigation elements (such as menu buttons or profile settings) were reorganized for clarity. On mobile, a hamburger menu and bottom nav were refined to ensure the dashboard itself had maximum space for content. On desktop, we kept a top navigation bar with clear labels. The dashboard section titles (e.g. “Daily Recommendations”) are now more descriptive, and informational tooltips were added where needed (for instance, explaining what a “Prime Match” is). These changes help users find what they need without confusion.

Results & Impact

The dashboard enhancement yielded positive results in both user experience and business metrics. Qualitatively, users reported that the new dashboard felt “livelier” and made it easier to discover new matches. Engagement increased as users spent more time exploring different sections instead of getting stuck

Early A/B test data showed a notable uptick in interactions – more users were clicking on match suggestions and viewing success stories than before. This increased engagement has a direct business impact: with users finding matches more easily and enjoying the experience, they are more likely to stay on the platform and convert to paid memberships. Although specific numbers are confidential, the trend was clear that user satisfaction and platform activity improved after the redesign

The client noted a reduction in customer support queries related to “how to use” the dashboard, indicating the new design’s intuitiveness. Overall, the project successfully revitalized a critical part of the user journey, making the matchmaking process on Bharat Matrimony more user-friendly and engaging.
